Yes, as a guy who has spent much of his life justifying car purchases to SO's an upright four seater is a lot easier sell than a swoopy tandem set up.  While they are at it they could use the magic RWD platform for a true small truck too.  Dare to dream.

Let me expand on this, I think there might be some merit to it than my flippant you can get approval from the SO remark. It is not just a wife won’t let me bu y a sports car thing, it is that Miatas and BRZ’s are often purchased as daily drivers, unlike say a 911 or a Vette, which is bought by someone who may daily it, but they also have an SUV or sedan or something else to take when they have kids or clients or whatever to haul.

My theory is there would be a lot more people who would buy an upright, 4 seater (think original BMW 2002) that is cheap, simple and fun to drive so they can haul around kids, maybe not real agile parents, or clients who are a little stuffy, or come in sets of 2-3, or just things . Or they don’t mind being low to the ground but don’t want to be that low.

But keep it dimple, cheap, reliable, and fun to drive, a status symbol not for styling or price, but for in the know people who know, nudge nudge wink wink, that your practical sedan is really a sports car. The whole house of BMW was built on this idea, though they now trade on reputation as such more than actual product.
